This year’s holiday season sure looks different from most. Although some of the usual traditions we enjoy with loved ones may not be an option this year, there are still plenty of ways to keep the holiday spirit alive while staying safe and healthy.

CUTE CARDS

Sending holiday cards is one lovely tradition you don’t have to give up this year but why not have a little more fun with it? Write your own quarantine-inspired message or find a great selection of clever 2020 holiday cards at Peartree and Zazzle. Add a playful family photo that will be memorable for holidays to come when you can finally celebrate together again.

AN EXTRA DASH OF DAZZLE

Have you ever felt like you’re holding back a little with your holiday décor? This is the year to change that! Whether you’re envisioning a full-blown National Lampoon-style spectacle or just thinking of adding an extra string of lights, it wouldn’t hurt to add more holiday magic to your home display this year.

COOKIE SWAP CAR HOP

Don’t call off the cookie swap this year! Arrange a “trunk or treat” style gathering so you can still enjoy sharing your favorite holiday cookie recipes in a safe and socially distant way. Just put together some bags or containers of cookies for people to grab from your trunk. Make it extra festive by decorating your trunk with lights, playing holiday music and asking everyone to BYOHC (Bring Your Own Hot Cocoa).

MOVIE MARATHON

From the classics like A Christmas Story, Miracle on 34th Street and How the Grinch Stole Christmas to the annual slate of Hallmark Channel surprises, there’s nothing like a good holiday movie marathon to bring good cheer! So light some candles, grab your favorite cozy blanket and enjoy those holiday cookies while laughing all the way through the season’s most festive films.

VIRTUAL SECRET SANTA

It may take a little extra planning but a virtual Secret Santa can be just as fun as an in-person gift exchange. So how do you keep it a secret? Using an online tool like Elfster or DrawNames, you can have everyone choose their recipient. If all participants live close by, you may be able to stealthily leave gifts on doorsteps but if you’re exchanging gifts with far away family members, your best bet would be to designate one person’s address as the return address for all gifts mailed so you can keep the mystery alive.

From all of us at Wildlight, have a happy and safe holiday season!
